S’mores Puppy Chow

I love puppy chow! It is my go-to snack for long car rides. For summer, I wanted to make my puppy chow the perfect camping treat so I added some flavors to have a s’mores version. This recipe makes a lot. There will be plenty for traveling, eating around the campfire, and as a reward for making such a tasty snack.

How did I incorporate s’mores into puppy chow? I coated half the Chex in powdered sugar (like normal) and the other half I coated in graham cracker crumbs. Also, I added mini marshmallows and Golden Grahams to the mixture.

Directions

Step 1

Divide the Chex cereal into two large mixing bowls. I used the entire 18 oz family-size Chex box to make things simple. My particular box divided into 7.5 cups for each bowl.

Step 2

In a saucepan over low heat, stir the peanut butter, chocolate chips, and butter together until everything is melted.

Step 3

Divide the chocolate mixture in half to pour over the cereal in both mixing bowls. Personally, I found it easiest to add all the chocolate mixture to a liquid measuring cup and pour out half that way. I believe it ended up being approximately one cup of the chocolate mixture for each bowl.

Gently fold the chocolate into the cereal until all the Chex cereal is completely covered in chocolate.

Step 4

In one of the mixing bowls, add the powdered sugar in small batches as you gently stir to coat all of the chocolate-covered Chex cereal. Many people add the cereal to a Ziploc bag and shake the powdered sugar all over it which is a great way to distribute the powdered sugar but I just stir.

In the second mixing bowl, in small batches, add the graham cracker crumbs to coat the cereal. I prefer to buy a package of graham cracker crumbs from my grocery store but if you are making your own crumbs from graham crackers please use a food processor to make the crumbs extremely fine.

Step 5

Next, I spread out the puppy chow onto long sheets of wax paper and break up any of the larger chunks.

Step 6

From here, I get out my storage containers and start putting the s’mores puppy chow together. I put one cup of the graham-covered Chex, one cup of the powdered sugar Chex, 1/2 cup of mini marshmallows, and 1/2 c of Golden Grahams to a container. Then I give the s’mores puppy chow a good mix.

Next, I continue the same pattern until a container has been filled.

Or . . . you can just mix everything together.

I hope you love this s’mores puppy chow recipe. Customize it by adding mini chocolate chips or Teddy Grahams.
