Many moms-to-be forget to add seasonal items to their baby registries. This category can be one that is super fun to shop for (and expensive) so make sure to include these must-have baby items for summer and winter on your baby wish list!

For Spring and Summer;

Sunglasses

Nothing is cuter than a baby in sunglasses, am I right? You’ll definitely want to protect your new baby’s eyes from the glaring sun. I would highly recommend registering for a couple of pairs because undoubtedly the baby will fling them off and possibly lose them when you aren’t looking.

Sunscreen

Did you know that you are not supposed to put sunscreen on babies under the age of six months? Instead, you will need to find ways to protect that perfect skin from the sun in different ways (see below).

If your baby will be six months or older when those summer months hit you will need sunscreen. Our family uses this sunscreen on the kids because it has an EWG rating of “1”, I like it a lot.

It’s super quick and easy to put up

Sun Umbrella or Tent

If your baby is under six months of age (or at any age!) a sun umbrella is great. For napping or playing, something to protect your little one from the sun’s harsh rays will be essential during the summer months.

Instead of an umbrella, I bought a sun tent and I absolutely love it! Not only is it perfect for napping babies but as a nursing mom, I am able to easily fold up the front to have privacy when I want to breastfeed my baby on the beach.

Baby Float

Summer is the best! I love taking my babies swimming. It is so fun to see your children enjoying the water. This baby float works perfectly to safely allow your baby to spend time in the water with you.

I’ve never tried this baby float but I am going to order one for this summer, it looks awesome.

Life Jacket

If you plan on taking your baby on a boat you should absolutely register for an infant life jacket.

Swimsuit

Another fun item to register for is a baby swimsuit. Just make sure to think about what size your baby will be in when summer begins. Many baby swimsuits have a bigger size range (for example, 6-12 months) than typical baby clothing which is nice.

If you plan on being in the water a lot with your baby (I certainly was!), consider registering for two or more suits. Putting on a wet suit is not fun for anyone.

Swim Diapers

I am a huge proponent of trying to live a greener lifestyle. My family cloth diapers, we make our own baby food, and I try to use reusable products whenever I can. But when it comes to swim diapers I have to admit I’ve been using disposable swim diapers. It is just so convenient to throw them away and rip the sides apart so poop doesn’t get smeared everywhere.

I do want to try reusable swim diapers this year and I think I will go with this reusable swim diaper because it unsnaps on the side. Again, you don’t want to purchase anything you have to drag down a child’s legs (poop will get everywhere!).

Wet Bag

Our diaper bag has a wet bag in it at all times because, as I said above, we cloth diaper. But even if you don’t cloth diaper you will want a wet bag for the summer. Throw in a baby’s wet swimsuit, swim diaper, etc. so nothing else in your bag will get wet.

Sunhat

One of my favorite purchases for my baby has been this sunhat. The reason I love it so much is because it can be adjusted to fit the circumference of a child’s head and there is no velcro involved. My kids have tiny heads and most other hats come down right over their eyes. Not this one! If a sunhat has a velcro closer I promise you your baby will rip off the hat constantly.

Winter Bunting

A baby isn’t going to need snow pants, a winter jacket, or boots because a baby can’t walk. Instead, register for a winter bunting to keep your child snug and warm.

Winter Hat

Even if your baby’s winter bunting has a hood you will still want a warm hat for the baby. Most of a person’s body heat escapes through his/her head – keep that warmth inside your kiddo!

Car Seat Cover

Depending on when your baby will be born, you may want to register for a warm car seat cover for the infant car seat. It is easy to slide onto the car seat, keeps your baby protected from the cold, and is still safe to use because it does not go under the car seat straps.

I hope this list was helpful in putting the finishing touches on your baby registry. Is there anything seasonal I forgot to add? If you think I’m missing an item please let me know in the comments – thanks!

  • Love your list, it's so easy when making a baby registry to forget those seasonal items. I know when I did mine, I forgot about quite a few.

  • Great ideas! I never thought of the swim diapers for baby registry seasonal items.

  • Such a great seasonal baby registry list!!! My little guy was gifted a pair of sunglasses before he was born and we still wear them :) Can't ever be to protective over your babies :)

  • It's easy to forget those seasonal items. Most people forget to add them. These are some great suggestions. Babies look so cute in sunglasses too and they are good any time of year.
