Baked Sausage Roll cut in half on a plate next to sweet chili dipping sauce

Baked Sausage Rolls

Ground Italian sausage mixed with carrots, spinach, and spices rolled up inside puff pastry.

Servings 12 rolls

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • 1/2 lb sweet Italian ground sausage
  • 2 eggs divided
  • 1 carrot peeled and grated
  • 1/3 c spinach finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp minced onion
  • 1 tsp paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

  2. Take the puff pastry sheets out of the box and paper wrappers to start thawing.

  3. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the ground sweet Italian sausage, grated carrot, chopped spinach, garlic, one egg, onion, and paprika.

  4. Lay a sheet of puff pastry on a cutting board and slice into 6 equal portions.

  5. Spoon out the meat mixture onto each puff pastry rectangle. Don't overfill!

  6. Whisk the second egg in a small bowl.

  7. Brush egg on one of the long edges of each rectangle.

  8. Roll up each rectangle. The egg should help stick the puff pastry together.

  9. Place each sausage roll seam side down on a parchment lined (or use silicone!) baking sheet.

  10. Repeat with the second puff pastry sheet.

  11. Use the remaining egg left in the small bowl to wash the tops of the sausage rolls.

  12. Sprinkle the sesame seeds on the sausage rolls.

  13. Bake for approximately 25 minutes.

  14. Serve immediately with sweet chili dipping sauce.
