Subscription Boxes – The Gift That Keeps On Giving

My friend and I were chatting today about how fun the holidays are only to then have a huge letdown in January with nothing to look forward to.  My solution – subscription boxes!  Subscription boxes make perfect Christmas gifts (or gifts at any time of the year).  You can rest assured no one is returning this gift!

Why are Subscription Boxes so Great?

First of all, the boxes are often personalized.  The receiver usually gets to go on the website after getting a gift card and answers questions in order for the box to be designed specifically with that person in mind.  With some companies, you even get to pick exactly what comes in your box.

Also, the present allows for the receiver to look forward to something in the bleakness that is January.  The boxes can come every month, seasonally, or however often the gift giver or receiver chooses.

So fun to pick delicious recipes and for the ingredients to be sent directly to your house.

How to Gift a Subscription Box

Subscription boxes are super easy to gift.   Your shopping could be done in one day if you get a subscription box for everyone on your list! Plus, talk about easy to wrap.

Depending on the company, you are either purchasing a gift card for the receiver to then use and answer questions online to get personalized products or are selecting the type of box subscription you want to buy.

Some subscription plans can vary by the number of products sent, how often a box is sent, or by your budget.

*REMINDER –  I highly recommend using Rakuten (formally Ebates) with all your upcoming shopping.  You get cashback rebates by just going through the website or app first.  I have received numerous checks from Rakuten by just doing my normal shopping.  If you haven’t signed up for Ebates please use my Rakuten referral code.  I would greatly appreciate it!  But seriously, it’s free money why wouldn’t you use Rakuten?

Here is just a sample of a few subscription boxes some people on your shopping list might like.  Please note, there are tons and tons of different subscription boxes out there for every taste.

Subscription Box Ideas

For the Fashionista (Men, Women, or Kids):

I personally have used Stitchfix many times and I love it!

You start by making a profile including your budget, style, and sizes so the stylist has a better idea of what clothing and accessories to send you.  You can even make requests.

The company then sends you the box and you get to try on 5 items in the comfort of your home.  Anything you don’t like you can send back in the included prepaid package.  Some of my favorite pieces in my closet currently came from Stitchfix boxes I received years ago.

If you decide to give Stitchfix a try (or give it as a gift) please use my referral code. I get a $25 credit and you will too!

For the Beauty Queen:

Birchbox is an extremely popular subscription box. Each month a box is sent including personalized makeup, hair, skincare, and fragrance products. I love that the box includes information on how to use the products.

Another great box featuring beauty items is the Allure Beauty Box. This monthly box has at least 3 full-size items that are top beauty picks by the Allure editors.

For the Foodie:

There are a number of different meal delivery subscription boxes available, for good reason!  It is so fun to go online, pick what meals you would like to try, and then have all the ingredients (and recipes) delivered to you.  I personally have tried Hello Fresh but Blue Apron and Home Chef are also extremely popular.

A really fun gift to receive would be this Universal Yums subscription box. Snacks from other countries are sent once a month along with recipes, trivia, and more.

Not technically a subscription box, but I would be the happiest person ever if someone gifted me this ice cream box from Jeni’s.

Other great gift options are “of the month” clubs such as – pie, bagels, or beer.

For the Kid:

All Kids

Give the gift of reading with the Literati Kids Book Club. Each month the child receives 5 books but you only pay for the ones you keep and returns are free.

Here is a very popular subscription box for kids interested in hands-on arts and science projects. Children will love receiving their KiwiCo box once a month.

Another hugely popular subscription box for kids is Little Passports. Children can learn about different areas of the world in fun and exciting ways. Boxes include toys, stickers, activities, etc appropriately suited to your child’s age.

School Age

Each month children can explore a new country through culinary arts with the Eat2Explore subscription box. The box has three recipe cards with the mixes needed and a shopping list for fresh ingredients. Each box also includes extra activities and an exploration guide.

Bitsbox is a coding subscription box for kids. Each month the box comes with coding projects to teach kids how to make video games, greeting cards, etc. No previous experience is required and the boxes build upon the knowledge gained the previous month.

Preschool

The Preschool Box includes fun activities to learn counting, shapes, colors, etc.  Kids love to get mail, it is like two presents in one!

Baby

Hoppi Box sends packages full of high-quality toys tailored for your baby’s age.

Lovevery play kits include stage-based toys for children 0-4.

For the Dog Lover:

A box filled with treats and toys for your pup.  With Bark Box, you never receive the same items twice and you can personalize it to the size of your dog.  In addition, you can list any allergies your best friend might have.

Our Halloween-themed Bark Box.

For the Guys:

Dollar Shave Club sends a personalized box of trial-size products to improve how men get ready each day.  Then the full-size products are offered at a discount if the trial sizes were well-liked.

The GQ Best Stuff box is released quarterly filled with products loved by the editors of GQ. Items could include grooming products, electronics, accessories, etc.

For the Gals:

You see these boxes advertised by all the celebrities and they do look fun.  Fab Fit Fun sends seasonal boxes filled with 8-10 full-sized products (full-size!!).  The packages are filled with beauty, fitness, wellness, and home items.

For the Pregnant Woman:

The well-known Bump Boxes feature products based on trimester and even have a box curated specifically for breastfeeding. This would be a fun gift to go in on with multiple people. Each person could gift one trimester box.

In each EcoCentric Mom box, the receiver will get 2-3 items for pregnancy or baby (if the baby has already been born) as well as 2-3 items for around the house. All the products are organic and environmentally-friendly. Examples include; snacks, beauty items, baby care products, toys, etc.

For the Tea Lover:

Delicious teas can be discovered each month with the Sips by Tea subscription box. Every month the box includes both loose leaf and bagged tea, enough for 15+ cups of tea.

For the Camper:

For people who love to camp, Cairn would make a wonderful gift! Each box includes up to $50 worth of full-sized outdoor products

For the Book Lover:

With Book of the Month Club, the receiver gets to pick from five of the most popular early releases and debut novels at the current time.  This is a great gift for people like me who are usually on hold forever at the library for a newly released book.

What is your favorite subscription box to give or receive?
