Are you looking for the perfect kid-friendly Valentine’s Day dessert? This heart-shaped fruit pizza is tasty, easy to make, and has at least some healthy ingredients. This heart fruit pizza has a sugar cookie crust, cream cheese “sauce”, and fruit as toppings. Fruit pizza can be enjoyed at any time of year but when you cut it into a heart shape and color the frosting pink it makes a great Valentine’s Day treat.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. The fruit pizza can be cooked on a baking sheet or pizza pan. Line the pan with parchment paper.
Take a roll of refrigerated sugar cookie dough and roll it out with a rolling pin. You can do this by either smushing the dough into a ball and rolling it out how you normally would roll out the dough, or by slicing the log of dough and forming the slices into a circle.
Baking Tip – I like to roll out the dough between two sheets of parchment paper to keep my counters and rolling pin clean.
Using a pizza cutter or pastry edge cutter, cut the sugar cookie dough into a heart.
Lift or flip the heart cookie dough onto the parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake the sugar cookie pizza crust for approximately 12-14 minutes. You do not want to overcook the cookie! I think I kept my cookie in for 17 minutes and it was a little overdone (sugar cookies can trick you!). Let cool (about 30 minutes) before adding the frosting.
Combine 8 oz cream cheese with 1/4 c softened butter. Then add 1 1/2 c powdered sugar and 1 t vanilla. If you would like to color your frosting now is the time to do it. For Valentine’s Day, I like to color the frosting pink.
Once the sugar cookie crust has cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting on top. Add slices of fruit for the fruit pizza toppings.
For Valentine’s Day, I chose red grapes, strawberries, and raspberries but you can use whatever fruit you want.
Tip – If you are going to use apples or bananas make sure to spray or mix them with a little citric acid (lemon juice, pineapple juice, etc) to prevent browning (oxidation).
At this time, I would refrigerate the heart shaped fruit pizza for at least an hour. The sugar cookie pizza tastes really good cold! Serve in slices or squares. Then store any leftovers (if you have any!) covered in the refrigerator.
Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day and I hope you enjoy this yummy treat!
