It’s the perfect time of year to declutter your children’s spring and summer clothing. If you are going to be selling or donating spring and summer clothing now is the time to do so! It’s much more likely to be purchased than if you were to sell or donate after the season has passed. I highly recommend you also take inventory while going through the declutter process. By taking inventory you’ll know exactly what your child(ren) will need for the upcoming seasons and you can shop sales when they occur!

I like to focus on one child at a time so I don’t get overwhelmed. Take out all of the child’s spring and summer clothing and lay it out organized into categories.
Tip: I HIGHLY recommend you take inventory of your child’s clothing for the upcoming seasons so you know what he/she will need and in what sizes. Use my FREE Clothing Checklist Printable!

Consider each piece of clothing and each accessory. Ask yourself the following questions;
Do I like it?/Does my child like it?
Will it get worn?
Is it the right size?
How many __ does a child need?
What activities will my child be participating in and does this piece of clothing make sense?
Is it torn, stained, or damaged?
Can it be worn as part of an outfit with multiple clothing items from my child’s spring/summer wardrobe (capsule wardrobe)?
For each spring and summer clothing item you will now make a decision.
Are you going to keep it or declutter it?
The best way to declutter children’s clothing (in my opinion) is to hand them down to a friend or family member. All my girl clothes go to my sister who has a young daughter and all my boy clothes go to my best friend who has a son younger than mine. Easy, no waste!!
Other options are to sell or donate gently used clothing pieces. As I said before now is the time of year (early March) to donate or sell these seasonal clothing items. Many places take clothing donations including shelters, churches, schools, thrift stores, etc.
If a piece of clothing is beyond repair see if any of your local donation centers do any form of textile recycling. Otherwise, use clothes unable to be donated as rags for cleaning around your house.
I hope you join me next week for our next Declutter Challenge category.
