This year I read 77 books mostly on my Kindle, a number of them as audiobooks, and one as a paper copy. I was so desperate to read the third book in a series that I checked it out from the library when I couldn’t wait for my hold on Libby any longer. Surprisingly, this year I became a fantasy girly. I felt very worn out with historical fiction and fantasy filled in that gap with a vengeance. Below are my top 12 books that I read in 2023. A mortal woman is struggling to feed her family and her actions result in the consequence of her living with high fae. Gore, romance, and a lot of hierarchy get packed into this first book.

How Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids

Published Date: March 2017

Genre: Self-Help

There’s solid advice sprinkled throughout the author’s anecdotal experience with seeking help for her marriage when she felt her husband wasn’t doing his fair share.

Mary Jane

Genre: Historical Fiction

Mary Jane is a 14-year-old girl growing up in the 70s and takes a job as a summer nanny. The family she is nannying for is completely different from her own and helps open her mind.

The Guncle

An uncle (who is gay) takes in his niece and nephew for the summer after their mother passes away. Their daily life together is funny while they navigate grief.

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow

Published Date: July 2022

Genre: Fiction

This is a very unique story featuring two friends who meet as children and end up writing video games as well as owning a gaming company together. Their friendship ebbs and flows over time. You don’t need to be a gamer to appreciate this interesting book.

Remarkably Bright Creatures

Genre: Fiction

An absolute delight of a story combining an octopus, an elderly woman who cleans the aquarium, and a man who has made numerous bad choices. Their storylines all converge in a book I highly recommend.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches

Genre: Fantasy

This book is a sweet, cozy read about witches who stay apart for fear of being found out. That is until a found family with three young witches brings everyone together.

Carrie Soto is Back

Bad Summer People

Fourth Wing (the series)

A young woman is entering Basgaiath War College where she hopes to bond with a dragon and become a rider. At every point, her life is at stake. LOVED!!

The Five-Star Weekend

Hollis hosts a weekend at her home in Nantucket inviting friends from different stages in her life. Each guest is going through a crisis. The book focuses on friendship, convictions, and finding oneself.
