Baby Shower Jeopardy Game

I don’t enjoy playing the typical baby shower games.  Smelling “dirty” diapers to guess the candy bar – no thank you.   Drinking apple juice out of a baby bottle, I’ll pass.  But I am a competitive person and when hosting a baby shower you need activities to fill the time so my favorite go-to shower game is Jeopardy.  I like that you play the game in teams allowing various groups at the party to interact and with a set number of questions you know the game won’t go on forever.

I have included instructions for how I make my Jeopardy boards, what I include in the prize bags, and a FREE PRINTABLE (see below) of all my Baby Jeopardy questions with each accompanying answer.  If you are planning on hosting a baby shower I hope this information helps you and saves you a lot of time.

Supplies;

Poster Board

Thumb Tacks

Index Cards

Stickers – Title & Categories

Sharpie

DIY Jeopardy Board;

1. I use the title stickers to spell out “Jeopardy” at the top of the poster board.

Hint – If you only use the word “Jeopardy” you can use the board over and over again (reduce, reuse, recycle). The board pictured below has made the rounds to several baby showers reducing time, effort, and money!

2. Next, use the category stickers to spell out each category going from left to right underneath the title.

3. Write out the question and answer on the same side of an index card.  I use one color for each category.

4. On the reverse side of the index card write the corresponding points in sharpie. Personally, I free-hand this. Perfectionists out there might want to use more stickers or stencils.

5. Using one thumb tack per card put the index cards in order (top 100, bottom 500) under the corresponding categories with the points side facing out.

Game Instructions;

1. Split the guests into 5 equal groups or as close to equal as possible.

Either have the guests select their own groups or you can create a creative way to mix up the guests.   For example, at one party I put a colored index card under each person’s chair and then the guests with the same color became a team.

Sometimes the game is more fun if the groups are made up of a variety of guests (relatives + friends + coworkers) because each person might have a different type of knowledge to contribute to the team’s success. Furthermore, mixed groups allow for more guests to meet and mingle.

2. Have one team start out the game by selecting a category and point amount they would like to try for.

I like to let the team with the pregnant mom go first because the party is for her after all. If she is not partaking in the game you can start with a random team or pick a number (1-100) in your head and the team that guesses closest gets to go first.

3. If the team gets the question right give the card to them to hold onto (then you don’t have to do any math at the end – bonus!!).

If the team gets the question wrong I like to open it up to the other teams allowing the team with the fastest hand raised to try and guess correctly.

4. Then have the team seated next to the first team select which category and amount they would like to try for.  Each team should end up being able to pick a category/amount 5 times.

5. At the end, have each team total up their points to see who wins.

If there happens to be a tie make sure to have a random tie-breaker question in your back pocket. I typically use another nursery rhyme question or book quote but a tie doesn’t happen often.

6. Hand out the prizes to the winners.

Prize Bags

Hopefully, guests were good about RSVPing to the party so you can estimate the number of prize bags you will need to make ahead of time.

For example, if 32 guests are coming to the party I would make seven prize bags because there should only ever be five teams. I put the following in a prize bag for each member of the winning team;

Magnetic Notepads

Tea Towel

Candle

Kleenex (for happy tears when the baby arrives!)

Tea

Prize Bags

For centerpieces at the baby shower, I painted mason jars and filled them with flowers. Read How to Paint Mason Jars for instructions.
