Kids grow so fast! Every season I have to take inventory of my children’s clothing to see what fits and what we need to buy. I’ve created a kids’ clothing checklist to help me determine what I will need to purchase for the upcoming season. I print out this spring/summer clothing checklist for each of my children. Read below to understand my process and how you too can easily determine your child’s clothing needs for the spring and summer seasons.
Easily print out the Spring/Summer Clothing Checklist for Kids for each one of your children.
Go through all of their spring and summer clothing you already have at home to determine what still fits.
On the checklist mark what your child needs in each category and what clothing items your child doesn’t need by checking the appropriate boxes.
In the “Notes” section, I like to write down colors my child could use more of. I make notes about sizes, patterns vs solids, preferred fabrics, etc. I list any detail that might help me when it comes to shopping.
The goal is to always select clothing items that will make as many outfits as possible. The term “capsule wardrobe” is often used. A shirt that can only be worn with one specific pair of shorts is not a shirt I want for my child. Clothes that can be mixed and matched in numerous outfit configurations is what I aim for.
Now that you know what your child needs for the upcoming spring and summer seasons you will need to shop for those items.
I love to shop resale and consignment sales for kids’ clothing. Hand-me-downs are even better if you have a friend or family member willing to pass on their children’s outgrown clothing.
By taking inventory of their clothes and figuring out what their needs will be for spring and summer early, I can wait for sales and plan out exactly what I want to buy. Better yet, if a birthday is coming up I now have gift ideas to recommend to people if they ask.
If interested, follow me on Instagram (@planningforkeeps). I will be featuring spring and summer clothing sales in my stories.
I hope you find the Spring Summer Clothing Checklist for Kids helpful while preparing for the next two seasons.

It sure was helpful when you suggested choosing clothing items that can be worn many times and can be used for as many outfits as possible. My husband and I are planning to shop for new clothes for our three-year-old daughter next Friday. We want to ensure that we can find a way to save money since we have a restricted budget, so we will do your tips.
I'm glad you found the information helpful. If you really want to save money on children's clothes check out any consignment stores or thrift stores around where you live. I find awesome, brand-name clothes for a fraction of the price when I buy used versus new.
Beautiful kids-wear collection. So stylish and trendy. Love them all. Thanks for nice ideas.
