I love summer!! Summer is the greatest for so many reasons. One reason is that I can get more reading in. Between long drives to the cabin, vacations, and weddings to lounging on the beach, my Kindle is primed and ready to go. Take a look below at my July book reviews and recommendations if you are ready to add to your summer reading list.
I’m usually not a big fan of thrillers or suspense but Necessary People included just enough for the story to seem more realistic than most.
Two college roommates become best friends despite their different upbringings. While the wealthy friend frolics abroad after graduation, the other becomes a hard-working intern at a cable news station. Everything is going great until the rich friend returns and starts treading on her friend’s territory.
Backstabbing, jealousy, and connections all play a huge role in the events that take place in this book.
The author of I Miss You When I Blink is (at times) my soulmate and at other times we could not be more different. I was unsure if I wanted to continue reading after the first chapter but I’m so glad I did!
When the author starts retelling anecdotes from her childhood I was blown away. Her writing style is exactly who I want to be – funny, clever, and with the right amount of swear words dispersed throughout.
The parts I didn’t love were the mid-life existential crisis stuff but maybe it’s because I personally not at that point in my life. Even she asks herself “What do you have to be unhappy about (besides traffic)?”.
I would have given the book more stars but the last few chapters were a bit annoying. It’s a very quick read and I enjoyed her writing a lot.
In Beyond the Point, three girls graduate high school and are accepted to West Point. Each is planning on being a part of the West Point basketball team. The athletes end up becoming friends for life.
Through their time at West Point and in their careers after graduation, the three have their ups and downs. The women experience injuries, deployments, love, harassment, and fear.
This book is an easy read about the bonds of friendship. I thought the military aspect put an interesting twist on the story.
If you are looking for a light, fun read, From Scratch should not be your pick.
Tembi tells her story of meeting her husband in Italy and the ups and downs they experience in their short marriage to one another. Her husband dies of cancer and leaves her with a young daughter.
In the end, the book was a little too depressing for me but the talk of food is incredible.
