Halloween was always a big deal when we attended UW-Madison. The holiday consisted of going out Friday in costume, going to the football game Saturday morning, and then going out again Saturday night. Basically, a full non-stop weekend of drinking and craziness – we were lucky to survive.
Now, we are a little older, our tolerance levels are a lot lower, and my body can’t pull off the slutty costumes like it used to. Never the less we still had a good time.
Downtown Rapid City had trick-or-treating the previous weekend when costumed children (and parents – don’t get me started) went around to the businesses for candy. Our shop ran out of candy within 1 1/2 hours! This is why I picked up a bunch of candy for our house. The neighborhoods in Rapid City don’t have a designated trick-or-treat time. The children start going house to house whenever they want on Oct. 31. Last year we had a lot more children but this year we hardly had any resulting in tons of leftover candy. This will not help me get into semi-shape for our upcoming honeymoon.
We decided to not go to Deadweird in Deadwood because of the cost and time. Instead, we decided to try the event at the Alex Johnson Hotel. At first, there was no one at the event but it picked up later and became more fun. There were some good drink specials, a photobooth, and an okay DJ. The costume contest was fun. This Halloween was nothing like our college days but I’m okay with that.
