Gross title, but it’s not what you think. I am the opposite of a hoarder, I love to get rid of items.
I am not a very sentimental girl. I don’t keep old movie stubs, I don’t keep awards I earned throughout my school years, and I most certainly don’t keep anything I don’t like just because someone gave it to me as a gift. But I am not completely heartless. I do enjoy photographs, I hold on to books I’ve enjoyed and will definitely read again, and I’ve kept every romantic card/letter Alex has ever written me. I take pride in the fact that I am cutthroat when it comes to making decisions and I know many people who could benefit from my purging skills.
Since the start of the year I have really made an effort to establish better habits for a couple of reasons. One, I have a lot of areas of improvement to work on. Since I am a few months away from my 30s I have noticed that my metabolism is drastically slowing down and my problem areas are increasing in number. Secondly, I just need to start being a more responsible adult because if I don’t start these habits now when will I? Lastly, I have a lot of time on my hands. I have no baby to take care of and all my friends have babies and/or are pregnant so my social life has slowed considerably.
I have found that introducing one new healthy habit a month has worked for me because I can just focus for four weeks on incorporating that one new habit and by the end of the month I don’t really need to think about it any more . . . a healthy habit has formed.
There are a few things I just can’t seem to remember. I learn these life lessons over and over but they just don’t stick.
Why I decide to make something new each time I have people over for a meal is beyond me. The recipe always ends up taking longer than it should. Often, the result isn’t what I wanted. When I make a recipe the first time I almost always have changes that I would make to it the next time, that is if I don’t decide to nix it completely. As a former Home Ec teacher it is quite embarrassing when I am a disaster in the kitchen. Why don’t I just stick to recipes I love and I know I make great when I am trying to make a good impression?
